The United States and Iran have reached a peace deal, ending months of war that destabilised the region and rattled the global economy.
“The peace deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been reached,” Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on X on Monday, adding that both sides had declared “the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon”.
A formal signing ceremony is set for 19 June in Switzerland.
President Donald Trump confirmed the breakthrough on Truth Social, declaring “The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” and immediately authorised the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the removal of the U.S. Naval blockade. “Let the oil flow!” he wrote.
The agreement comes after months of turbulent diplomacy marked by collapsed talks, military exchanges, and public ultimatums from both sides.

Al Jazeera, citing Iranian media, had reported on Sunday that a Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran to advance negotiations between Iran and the United States.
According to Iran’s ISNA news agency, the mediation team was headed by an adviser to Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
The Tasnim News Agency, Al Jazeera reported, said that the delegation’s visit was aimed at reviewing the latest developments in the diplomatic process between Iran and the U.S.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani welcomed the agreement, extending thanks to Pakistan and all regional and international parties that helped create conditions for the understanding.
“Qatar will remain a steadfast supporter of these efforts, and of all that serves to enhance security and stability at both the regional and international levels through dialogue and peaceful means,” Sheikh Mohammed said in a post on X.
The ceasefire is far-reaching in scope. Both Washington and Tehran have committed to halting military operations not only inside Iran but across all active theatres, with Lebanon explicitly included.
Sharif, on Saturday, had hailed the breakthrough, saying the two sides had agreed on a “final, agreed upon text” and that peace had never been closer.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed in a phone call on state TV that a deal with the U.S. has been finalised and the official signing will happen in Switzerland on Friday.
“An immediate and permanent end to the war and military operations on different fronts including Lebanon will be announced tonight,” he said.
He added that the U.S. naval blockade against Iran will also be lifted tonight.
