Qatar PM-FM congratulates UK’s Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, discusses regional de-escalation
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband in Doha on Friday to discuss bilateral relations and the latest regional developments, with a particular focus on diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and strengthen security and stability across the Middle East.
At the start of the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed congratulated Miliband on his recent appointment as the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries and ways to enhance it, as well as the latest regional developments.
Addressing the regional situation, Sheikh Mohammed stressed the importance of all parties remaining committed to dialogue and diplomacy and implementing the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran.
He highlighted the need to uphold freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, preserve regional security, protect recent diplomatic gains and reinforce stability.
The prime minister also reiterated Qatar’s full support for all initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and achieving a comprehensive agreement that would establish lasting peace in the region.
