Qatar’s Traffic Department and the Public Works Authority (Asghhal) are conducting a joint study to determine the feasibility and usefulness of countdown timers at traffic signals, The Peninsula newspaper reports.
The move apparently follows previous campaigns to curb traffic violations and bring greater order to driving in Qatar, including the installation of speed radar, traffic cameras, and deploying more police. Officials says the timers would give pedestrians more confidence too.
A first digital timer was installed at the Al Barzan / Post Office intersection last March. Somehow, I’ve never managed to spot it.
What do you think? A good idea?
