Al Monitor has placed Qatar’s Sheikha Al Mayassa on its list of 50 influencers making their mark on cultural development in the Middle East.
Her entry reads:
The daughter of Qatar’s ruling emir is often called the driving force behind the oil-rich country’s unabashed cultural ambitions. Armed with a degree from Duke University, she heads the board of trustees for the Qatar Museums Authority, which oversees the Museum of Islamic Art (pictured above), Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art and the National Museum of Qatar.
It certainly isn’t the first time Al Mayassa has been recognized as an important cultural player in the region.
But with numerous artists and influencers named from Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Lebanon and the UAE, she remains the only name from Qatar on the unordered list.
What do you think? Did they miss out important names from here?
