Six construction workers in Lusail have been killed and at least a handful of others injured after being struck by a runaway four-wheel vehicle while waiting for their bus yesterday afternoon, two local newspapers report.
The men, who were reportedly of Asian descent and in their mid-20s to mid-30s, were lying in the shade while waiting for their transportation when the accident occurred around 1pm, the Peninsula states.
Speaking to a “source in the community,” Gulf Times said:
“It is likely that the driver lost control of the vehicle or he was distracted at the time of the accident. He could also have fallen asleep, leading to the mowing down of the workers.”
The newspaper added that an official at the Daayen municipality police station confirmed the deaths of six workers, and staff at Hamad Medical Corp. confirmed receiving five bodies at its mortuary yesterday afternoon.
Officials from Lusail, a city that is being built north of Doha, were not immediately available for comment.
Does anyone know more? Thoughts?
