Report: Man jailed for a year for drunken antics on Qatar Airways flight
A man in his mid-30s has been jailed for a year by a Qatari court for becoming drunk on board a Qatar Airways flight to Doha and sexually harassing cabin crew, reports the Peninsula.
The court heard that the man kissed a female member of cabin crew on the lips and slapped another on the back, and then took all his clothes off and ran naked around the aircraft’s economy cabin.
The cabin crew reported the man’s behavior to the captain, who ordered that he be restrained immediately.
Police arrested the male passenger as soon as the aircraft landed in Doha.
The Peninsula reports that the man was then charged with “sexually assaulting hostesses and drinking even though he was a Muslim.”
The man, whose nationality is not mentioned in the report, was also fined QR1,000 ($274) by the court.
Peninsula’s report doesn’t say when the incident occurred, or which flight it took place on.
Qatar Airways have so far not responded to our request for comment.
Were you on the flight? Do you know any more?
Note: Story edited to clarify that the man was prosecuted for drinking alcohol, a direct contravention of Qatari law which bans Muslims from doing so. Mention of the man’s religion in the first sentence was removed due to reader concerns about sensationalism.
