Prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi has been discharged from a Jeddah hospital after a brief stay following Hajj, media reports state.

The 86-year-old head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars is in stable condition, according to a statement released by his office, Al Arab reports.

Al-Qaradawi received an outpouring of support on social media after his colleague Sheikh Salman al-Ouda tweeted about his hospitalization to his nearly 2 million followers.

Al Sharq adds that al-Qaradawi developed a cold after completing the pilgrimage and is expected to return to Doha this weekend.

Last year, the scholar spent weeks recuperating from an extended illness while in Qatar.
