Ashghal has partially opened three new underpasses on Salwa Road for traffic heading toward the Industrial Area, with two of theĀ opposite lanes expected to open on March 29.
The underpasses will allow vehicles to bypass traffic signals and will ideally reduce some of the nightmarish congestion that Salwa Road has seen during its ambitious and much-delayed redevelopment project.
According toĀ Qatar Tribune:
Driving from Al Asiri to Industrial Area, commuters will first need to travel through an underpass at Decoration Interchange, and then reach the second tunnel at the Vegetable Market Interchange and finally pass through the Faleh Bin Nasser Interchange, which is actually not too far from the Industrial Area.
Some relief was already seen at the end of January, when the Ain Khaled underpass partially opened to traffic. Arab graffiti artist eL Seed has been decorating all four of the tunnels.
The Salwa Road project, which expands the 6.9km of road from Al Asiri Interchance (Midmac Roundabout) to Industrial Interchange at a cost $436m, was supposed to be completed by December of last year, but is now expected to be finished in September.
Have you tried out the new underpasses yet? Thoughts?
