Qtel activates high-speed fiber internet in 4,000 homes, expects to reach all of Qatar by 2014
Some lucky 4,000 homes are now enjoying Qtel’s high-speed fiber internet, the company says, but the majority of Qatar’s residents are still holding their breath for the service.
Still, they may not have to wait for long – the company is currently in the process of replacing existing copper connections with high-speed fiber in some 30,000 homes and businesses, its chief operating officer has said.
Gulf Times reports:
Through the fiber, Qtel is providing high-speed Internet, high-definition television, advanced services such as movies and video-on-demand and “crystal clear” landline telephony.
Asked about customer response, (the COO) said: “It has been extremely positive. Those of our customers who are already on fibre, it has been an ‘incredible’ transformation of the way they experience faster-than-ever Internet speeds, enabling them to download huge volumes of data, including songs and movies in a few seconds.”
