Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, participated in the 24th session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government held in Moscow on Tuesday.
In his address, Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to the founding principles of the SCO: solidarity, consultation, and cooperation, while emphasising the forum’s role in tackling shared challenges.
He highlighted the SCO’s effectiveness as a platform for dialogue and practical collaboration, particularly in security, economic, and cultural spheres.
The Prime Minister aligned Qatar’s national priorities with the SCO’s guiding charter, noting mutual trust, equality, and respect for diversity as key values.
He reiterated the country’s commitment to its Qatar National Vision 2030, which emphasises economic diversification, human capital development, and environmental protection.
Describing the SCO as a “strategic partner,” Sheikh Mohammed expressed hope that Qatar’s status as a Dialogue Partner would deepen further.
He called for stronger joint action on urgent global issues, including economic slowdown, humanitarian crises, and environmental threats, and underscored Qatar’s role as a mediator in regional and international disputes.
He also thanked Russia for hosting the meeting and praised the SCO Secretary-General for his efforts in advancing the organisation’s cooperation agenda.
Over the two-day meeting, SCO members are expected to discuss cooperation in trade, investment, social development, and other areas of common interest.
