Qatar’s medal tally rose to five following four wins on Tuesday.
Qatar’s youth athletic team won four medals on Tuesday at the 11th Arab Junior Athletics Championship, taking the overall tally to five in the competition currently underway in Tunisia.
Younes Al-Baloushi clinched gold while Abdullah Al-Abdullah finished second as two of Qatar’s medals came in the same pole vault category.
Runner Timo Jumaa finished second in the 100-metre sprint, clocking 10.76 seconds to clinch Qatar’s third medal of the day.
Saleh Mahmoud, who won gold in shot put, tasted yet another glory with a bronze in the discus throw event.
Mahmoud had achieved a personal best throw of 17.85 meters to claim Qatar’s first gold medal in the championship. Al-Baloushi joined Mahmoud in becoming the only Qataris to have won gold among the ten-athlete-strong contingent.
The Qatari athletes participating in the tournament include Samer Hussein (1500m), Idris Abkar and Hussein Mohammed (110m hurdles), Abdulrazzaq Idris and Abkar Idris (400m hurdles), Mubarak Saeed (1500m), as well as Saleh, Al-Baloushi, Jumaa, and Al-Abdullah.
The tournament has brought together athletes from 15 Arab countries, including Qatar, Jordan, the UAE, Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Syria, Lebanon, Algeria, Sudan, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, and Libya.
The championship in Tunis will conclude on Wednesday with several track and field events scheduled on the final day.
