Saleh Mahmoud earned Qatar its first gold medal in the shot put category in Tunisia.
Qatari shot putter Saleh Mahmoud earned a gold medal at the 11th Arab Junior Athletics Championships, currently underway in Tunisia and running until Wednesday.
The tournament brings together athletes from 15 Arab countries, including Qatar, Jordan, the UAE, Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Syria, Lebanon, Algeria, Sudan, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, and Libya.
Mahmoud achieved a personal best throw of 17.85 meters to claim the top spot in the shot put event. This marks Qatar’s first gold medal of the competition.
The Qatari delegation includes ten athletes participating in various events: Samer Hussein (1500m), Timo Jumaa (100m and 200m), Idris Abkar and Hussein Mohammed (110m hurdles), Abdulrazzaq Idris and Abkar Idris (400m hurdles), Mubarak Saeed (1500m), Abdullah Al Abdullah and Younes Al Baloushi (pole vault), and Saleh Mahmoud (shot put and discus).
The team is aiming to secure multiple medals and contend for overall top honours in the championship.
The Qatari delegation is headed by the President of the Qatar Athletics Federation Mohammed Issa Al Fadala.
