Teddy bear selfie, anyone?
Qatar’s Hamad International has become one of the world’s most popular airports on Instagram, thanks in large part to Urs Fischer’s 20-ton Lamp/Bear.
That’s according to travel search site wego.com, which has compiled a list of the eight airports that are most frequently tagged on the popular photo sharing app.
HIA ranked sixth, in large due to the enormous, cuddly-looking yellow bear that sits picture perfect for travelers entering the departures terminal.

According to Dean Wicks, Wego’s chief flights officer:
“Love it or loathe it, Urs Fischer’s ‘Giant Teddy Bear’ dominates as a point of interest in the departure terminal, as does the giant moving walkway for transfer passengers between concourses A and E.”
HIA, which announced a new user tax on passengers this week, was also ranked the world’s coolest airport and the best airport in the region this year.
Other photogenic airports
HIA is in some impressive company on the Instagram list, which includes Singapore’s Changi, the most tagged airport in the world.
Photo-taking travelers are apparently most drawn by its rooftop garden, annual Christmas and Chinese New Year displays and Kinetic Rain installation.

Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi also made the list, thanks to its Buddhist Pagoda and impressive concourse.
Other airports ranked in the top eight include Los Angeles International, London’s Heathrow, Sydney International, JFK in New York and Tokyo Haneda.
