Qatar’s Amir and Trump reviewed Middle East developments and stressed the importance of diplomacy, dialogue and safeguarding global energy supplies
Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held a telephone conversation on Wednesday with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East amid heightened political and security tensions across the region.
According to the Amiri Diwan, the two leaders reviewed recent developments in the region and exchanged views on ongoing international and regional efforts to reduce tensions and promote stability.
During the call, the Amir underscored the importance of prioritising political and diplomatic solutions to address the challenges facing the region.
He stressed that dialogue among all parties remains essential to strengthening regional security and stability and preventing further escalation.
The discussion took place at a time of increased uncertainty in the Middle East, as regional and international actors intensified diplomatic efforts to contain tensions due to the U.S.-Israel and Iran conflict.
The Amir reiterated Qatar’s longstanding position in support of dialogue and diplomacy as the most effective means of resolving disputes and achieving sustainable peace.
Qatar has played a key role in regional mediation efforts in recent years, facilitating negotiations and diplomatic initiatives to ease tensions and support conflict resolution.
The leaders also discussed the importance of maintaining open channels of communication to address current issues and support efforts to preserve regional stability.
Maritime security and the protection of strategic waterways featured prominently in the conversation. Sheikh Tamim and Trump highlighted the need to safeguard freedom of navigation and ensure the security of key maritime routes that are vital to international trade and global energy markets.
They also stressed the importance of maintaining the uninterrupted flow of global supply chains and energy supplies, amid concerns that regional instability could have broader economic implications.
