Sheikh Tamim discussed the Ras Laffan industrial accident with the leaders of Pakistan and India, expressing condolences and reaffirming support for affected families.
Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held separate phone calls with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi following Sunday’s deadly industrial accident in Ras Laffan that claimed the lives of Pakistani and Indian nationals.
During a call with Sharif on Wednesday, Sheikh Tamim expressed his condolences over the victims of the explosion at an industrial facility in Ras Laffan, which resulted in the death of a Pakistani national among 12 others.
According to QNA, Sharif thanked the Amir for his support and praised the medical care provided to those injured, as well as the efforts of Qatari authorities in responding to the incident.
The two leaders reaffirmed their solidarity with the victims’ families and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Qatar and Pakistan.
They also discussed bilateral relations and regional developments, particularly the latest developments surrounding the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. Sharif praised Qatar’s role in promoting regional peace, security and stability.
In a separate statement posted on X, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday expressed thanks to Sheikh Tamim for his phone call and condolences following the deaths of 12 Indian nationals in the Ras Laffan accident.
“We both share the grief of the families who have lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” Modi wrote.
He added that India and Qatar remain committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of their citizens and stand in solidarity with one another.
The calls came days after an explosion and fire at the Barzan local gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
QatarEnergy has confirmed that 13 people were killed – 12 Indian and one Pakistani – and 66 others got injured in the incident.
