Qatar welcomes 15 newly released Palestinian prisoners
More than a dozen Palestinians arrived in Doha early Wednesday morning from Cairo after being released in a prisoner swap deal between Israel and Hamas.
The 15 former detainees, who have been “exiled” from the Palestinian territories, were greeted at the airport by several Qatari officials, including Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, deputy premier, and Palestinian Ambassador to Qatar Munir Ghannam.
Some 477 prisoners were set free by Israel yesterday, about two dozen of them women. A further 550 are expected to be released in the coming months as part of the deal.
