Qatar University is opening the country’s first Laboratory Animal Research Center this year, a spokeswoman has confirmed to Doha News.
According to QU’s website:
The center will have its own dedicated building that will allow for “the humane care and use of laboratory animals in biomedical research and teaching at the university. It also provides veterinary care and training programs on animal handling, animal care and husbandry, disease diagnosis, anesthesia, animal surgery, and euthanasia.”
Al Arab reports that animals, including mice and rats, will be imported from Europe and the US for testing.
It also adds that an Environmental Studies Center; a Center for Advanced Materials, which will focus on material sciences and engineering; and a Gas Processing Center are in also in the works.
