The partnership with boxing’s premier publication will bring a major event to the Qatari shores.
Qatar will host a major boxing event annually as part of a sponsorship agreement signed between the country’s tourism promotion wing, Visit Qatar and The Ring magazine.
Visit Qatar will become the Heavyweight Sponsor of the premier boxing publication for two years as per the agreement announced late last week.
“The agreement also provides for one of these global events to be hosted annually in Qatar,” Visit Qatar said in a statement without revealing the specific details of the event.
The sponsorship agreement will bring Visit Qatar with event rights, branding opportunities and activations across five headline fights, culminating in The Ring’s annual awards ceremony.
“The partnership underscores Qatar’s prominent position in the global sports industry, with the sponsored fights set to feature some of the world’s top-ranked elite boxers, each with a significant international following,” the statement added.
The sponsorship was already on display before the announcement, during Ring Magazine’s first-ever boxing card, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, on April 26.
Headlined by Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn’s fight, the event generated more than 20.3 billion impressions across social media within 48 hours, according to its organisers.
First published in 1922, The Ring has long been boxing’s premier magazine with its own boxer rankings, championship belt, as well as its coverage over the years.
The publication has gone through multiple ownership changes throughout its existence before being acquired by Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority Chairman Turki Alalshikh in 2024 for $10 million (QAR 36.4m).
Announcing the takeover, Alalshikh had promised to restore the magazine’s “golden era” adding that the intent is to take “the Bible of Boxing to heights that it has never seen in the past.” The new series of events and the awards are a part of the said revamp.
As such, The Ring provides a “powerful platform” to reach global audiences and demonstrate the country’s commitment to sports, Visit Qatar’s CEO Abdulaziz Ali Al-Mawlawi said in the statement.
“This collaboration is part of Visit Qatar’s broader vision to engage global sports fans and boost destination visibility through strategic partnerships,” Al-Mawlawi added.
The Ring will join the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, UEFA, ONE Championship, among various other in the list of sporting organisations that Visit Qatar has partnered with in recent times.
Such “strategic collaborations” are also geared towards “strengthening Qatar’s international presence through events that appeal to a broad audience of sports enthusiasts worldwide,” Visit Qatar added.
