Qatar expected to spend $1bn to overhaul gas shipping fleet, exacerbating shortage of LNG transports
Qatar’s fleet of liquefied natural gas transport ships was built to run on petroleum fuel, but rising oil prices have made that option no longer viable, according to this Reuters report.
As a result, Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Gas Transport are set to agree on overhauling 45 of their largest tankers to run on gas. But that decision, not yet commented on publicly, could disrupt LNG trade due to an existing shortage of gas transport ships.
