Qatar developing ‘model job contracts’ for Philippines maids in effort to stave off labor ban
A committee from the Qatari Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Labor is working to create a ‘model contract’ for Filipino domestic workers that ensures human rights protections, according to the Philippine Embassy.
The Philippines government has been considering banning its citizens from working domestic labor jobs in Gulf countries due to poor human right track records.Â
A pre-approved contract vetted by both governments would offer a sort of stop-gap solution, guaranteeing a minimum standard of rights for workers, without having to wait for greater reform of Qatar’s labor laws. However, the details of a potential contract are still being worked out.
