Qatar has condemned unfounded ICC allegations as part of a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at undermining its mediation and humanitarian role.
Qatar has strongly condemned “unfounded allegations” concerning a case involving the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), calling them part of a coordinated effort by “bad actors” to spread disinformation and divert attention from their own actions.
In a statement issued by Qatar’s International Media Office (IMO) on Friday, the International Media Office (IMO) said falsified information had been circulated among several media outlets, “most of which declined to publish it upon determining that it lacks factual basis”.
It expressed concern that some reputable organisations had allowed themselves to be used to “spread disinformation and distort the truth to protect their own interests”.
The statement followed a report by The Guardian alleging that private intelligence firms had conducted a covert operation on behalf of Qatar targeting a woman who accused ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan of misconduct.
The IMO said such claims form part of a broader influence campaign “that remains ongoing against Qatar for its mediation role, saving lives and securing the release of hostages, its support for international institutions, and upholding international law”.
It added that disinformation is “commonplace as part of these efforts”, recalling that “several unfounded lawsuits filed in the United States against Qatar Charity were dismissed after the courts ruled that evidence presented in the cases was fabricated”.
“The State of Qatar remains vigilant against such attacks,” the IMO said, pledging to “continue to defend its name through all available avenues while pursuing peace and stability in the region”.
