A staffer working for Qatar’s Public Prosecution’s office has been arrested on the orders of the attorney general for “disclosing secrets” about an ongoing case on social media.
The prosecutor’s office oversees judicial affairs and handles legal complaints in Qatar.
In a statement on QNA,  Attorney General Dr. Ali Bin Fetais Al Marri said that the employee – who was not named – filmed a document related to a legal case under investigation and shared it online.
Al Marri stated that the crime was a serious one, and emphasized that sharing secrets entrusted to people in the workplace is a criminal offense under Qatar’s Penal Code.
Article 332 of that code states that any employee who knowingly divulges a secret related to his workplace without consent could face a prison term of up to two years, and/or a fine of up to QR10,000.
