Freelance photographer Brian Candy recently took this shot of the former Civil Defense headquarters, the namesake of the roundabout it sits near in Wadi Al Sail West.
The building now appears to be getting prepped for demolition, prompting questions about whether the intersection will continue to bear Civil Defense’s name.
Last year, staff there began shifting over to a new, state-of-the-art headquarters for the General Directorate of Civil Defense (GDCD) at Wadi Al Sail, near Al Ahli Hospital.
That building, which Ministry of Interior officials inaugurated in December 2012, has the country’s largest fire station, as well as several other departments.
It is unclear what will occupy the space left behind by the old Civil Defense building.
Do you think the name of the intersection will change when the structure is gone? Thoughts?
