Qatar residents have been complaining about traffic jams this afternoon following an accident on Shamal Road near IKEA.
It appears that construction equipment sitting on a flatbed truck tipped forward and crushed the cabin of the truck.
It is unclear whether the truck driver was injured. The accident happened around 3pm 4pm, according to commuters heading into Doha. Here’s some of the reaction on Twitter:
Were you affected by the accident? Thoughts?
Took me 1h20mins from Pearl to Oryx Rotana today RIDICULOUS!
Yesterday A trailer with excess height damaged the traffic signal at Al Wakra road near Barwa Village. Immediately traffic police came and cleared the scene. Today the signal is perfect. Kudos to Qatar Police
Hardly a surprising accident when you see the number of trucks on the roads without properly secured loads, simply relying on luck and gravity. Whilst they might not drive fast, it just takes one swerve to avoid another vehicle for the load to fall off. Often see bags piled up near the junctions coming from the docks where they have fallen off the back of the truck.
Last June I shipped about 40 rubbermaid type containers out air cargo.Had them packed and fastened, every one. They arrived in a 3/4 ton flatbed truck with low sides, no cargo net and not a rope to tie it down with. The boxes/containers were all higher than the sides.Oh yea, they said they would drive slow and all that. After spending 30 minutes on phone with company I realized it came down to ship or keep.I didn’t really have time to arrange anything else,so shipped. All it takes is one miscue somewhere along the way and it all goes askew. They were the official QA air cargo shippers btw.
as someone on twitter said…”apparently there was a Toyota involved”…. well isnt there always a TLC in the mix somewhere? most likely the cause of the accident!
Spot on
are we going to have speed bumps on the Shamal too next then? seems to be the cure for inadequate detection and action everywhere else!
In my experience, I noticed the heavy cargo containers bringing from port to ind.area or somewherelse, not locking with trailer body and they are using ropes and plastic belt fot tieying it.The transport co. Or other authorised parties are never checking properly this dangerous issue. Traffic police also may be not checking and taking actions on it.
