Officials: Qatar’s Emir to make first West Bank visit this month
Following a landmark trip to Gaza, Qatar’s Emir has made plans to also visit the West Bank for the first time, Palestinian officials have said.
The trip will take place before the end of this month, AFP reports.Â
Nabil Abu Rudeina, a spokesman for the Palestinian presidency, added that Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani’s visit to Ramallah was agreed upon when PA President Mahmoud Abbas was in Doha last week.
In October, Al Thani became the first head of state to visit Gaza since Hamas took control of the territory in 2007.Â
The trip was considered a victory for the government there, as it has yet to be recognized as legitimate by much of the international community, which widely views Abbas, who governs out of the West Bank, as the leader of the Palestinians.
