A new shopping center with a Spar supermarket, a four-screen cinema and entertainment zone in Al Thumama is set to open its doors to the public from June 15, its developers have said.
B Square Mall, by developers Al Bandary International Group, is between E-Ring and F-Ring roads in what is becoming an increasingly busy residential district of south Doha.
Spread over nearly 26,000 square meters, the commercial complex will include one of the first outlets for the Netherlands-based supermarket chain Spar.
There will be another branch at the under-construction Tawar Mall in Al Markhiya, although that complex is not set to open until late this year.
Across the two shopping levels there will be 70 shops and kiosks with brands including Java U Cafe and Al Aker Sweets, a four-screen Roxy Cinema, a food court and an entertainment zone Velocity City, the developers said in a statement.
The 2,000-square-meter, speed-themed area will include video and table games and carnival rides. Meanwhile, there will be parking over two levels for around 260 cars.
The developers were not available to confirm what facilities would be open to the public at the start of the soft-launch in just over two months’ time.
Retail growth
Qatar’s retail sector is expected to get more competitive in the coming years, with more than half-a-dozen new malls under construction.
In addition to the “mega-malls” such as Mall of Qatar and Doha Festival City, which are set to open in August and September this year respectively, there is also a cluster of smaller, neighborhood shopping centers.
Ezdan Holding has two new complexes in Al Wakrah and Wukair, which were due to launch by the end of last year. A spokesman for the organization told Doha News they should open in 2016.
The construction of E-Ring Road and F-Ring Road has led to more schools, mosques, health clinics and residential developments in Al Thumama and its neighboring districts.
