Some 33 deceased and decaying sheep were found washed up on the shores of Qatar’s northern beaches this week, Al Raya reports.

The sheep were presumably thrown off a cargo ship after dying and then carried to the beaches by the tide, a source at the Ministry of Environment’s animal wealth department told the newspaper.

Gulf Times translates:

The department has notified the rodents and pests units at the Al-Shamal Municipality to spray the dead animals with pesticides and the veterinary centre had been notified too…

The (MOE) source also pointed out that there is no chance for these dead animals to spread diseases to other animal species.
