Some of the world’s best tennis players are in Qatar this week to compete for a golden falcon trophy and more than $1 million in prize money.

The 25th annual Qatar ExxonMobil Open kicks off today (Jan. 2) and runs through Jan. 7 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash complex in Dafna/West Bay.

Ahead of the tournament, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic launched the 2017 ATP World Tour season by playing a friendly game of tennis on a special court in front of the Museum of Islamic Art.

Djokovic is the defending champion of the Qatar Open, and is ranked World №2. He was recently unseated by Murray, who is now World №1 for the first time.

Other stars who will compete in Doha include 2012 champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga from France and Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych, who played in Qatar last year.

Tickets

Tickets for the tournament can be bought through the Qatar Tennis Federation’s website.

They start from QR25 for the early rounds to QR350 for the Singles’ final on Jan. 7.

Tickets for access to the grounds only, which usually includes a fan zone, refreshments and entertainment, start from QR20 each.

Children under two years old can access the grounds with an adult ticket-holder, but kids over two need a ticket to enter the venue.

Children under five years are not allowed in the stands of the courts, according to QTF.

In addition to the action on the courts, organizers said there will be a public village with live music, entertainment and a traditional souq with local cuisine and handicrafts, Qatar Tribune reports.
