It was a grey start to the weekend for many Qatar residents who awoke to a thick blanket of storm clouds that weather forecasters expect to stick around for most of the day.
The Qatar Meteorology Department said it expects rain, thunder and heavy winds in various parts of the country on Friday. A system of thundershowers is moving eastward and could hit Doha, it added.

Overnight, northern parts of Qatar received some 2.8mm of rain, although it was the lightening that captured many residents’ attention:
