In honor of International Blood Donor Day, Magnolia Bakery is sponsoring a public donation drive at Dar al Salam Mall in Abu Hamour today (Thursday, June 13), from 9am to noon. Those who donate blood at the mall will be given free drinks and baked goods.

Hamad Medical Corp. said that the blood collected would go toward transfusions for patients with various ailments, including accident and burn victims, premature babies, and cancer and transplant candidates.

Shortages abound

Health officials here, who have said blood from one donor can save up to three lives, are constantly appealing to Qatar residents to donate blood, especially those who are Type O+.

Also as part of the “It’s Sweet to Give” campaign, Magnolia will sponsor corporate blood drives throughout June. Those who participate in these drives are entitled to free cupcakes or muffins from June 9 to 15.
