The National Olympic Committee should make good on its intention to globalize sports by taking Qatar and other countries into consideration as hosts of the tournament, IAAF President Sebastian Coe has said. Qatar put forward two failed bids to host the summer games already, and has discussed submitting a 2028 bid, but the high summer heat here makes it tough to contend against other countries.
Speaking in Doha ahead of today’s opening of the IAAF Diamond League, Coe said: “We have consistently …talked about globalizing and using sport to impact and imprint on the lives of young people – we have to make sure that we are, where possible, giving countries that want these events the opportunity to do exactly what we have for the last 30 or 40 years been encouraging them to do.”
