I started tweeting about two years ago, when the Qatar Twitterati community was a teensy tiny group.
Now, there are hundreds if not thousands of us on here, facilitating the creation of a virtual reality in which our nationalities do not limit who we interact with. In the real world, Qataris and expats rarely get the chance to communicate so easily.
But sometimes we do get those chances, and we should seize them.
Case in point: tomorrow’s Twestival!
A Twestival is a Twitter-sponsored meet up with a cause. Tomorrow, more than 100 cities around the world will hold this event, raising money for all kinds of charitable groups.
The proceeds from ticket sales and donations collected during the Doha Twestival will go to Reach Out to Asia, a Qatar-based non-profit that empowers local communities by providing access to quality education to children affected by crisis across Asia.
It’s not just about giving back, but also reaching out. Twestival is a great excuse to socialize and finally meet the people behind the avatars you’ve been chatting with all these months (or years!)
So get your tickets online (prices range from free to $28) and meet us tomorrow at Aspire Park from 6 to 9pm.Â
We’ll be the ones wrangling with the really cute, hyperactive toddler.
