Former World Cup winner and Brazil national team coach Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri, commonly known as Dunga, is most likely to take over the coaching reins of Qatar Stars League side Al Rayyan, Doha Stadium Plus has learnt from reliable sources.
The 47-year-old is expected to reach Doha on Tuesday and be officially presented before the media later on the day.
Rayyan are currently without a coach, after Brazilian Paulo Autuori took charge of the Qatar Olympic team on Saturday. It is learnt that Autuori recommended Dunga’s name to the Rayyan club management.
A former defensive midfielder and winning captain at the 1994 World Cup in USA, Dunga spent his club career in Brazil, Italy, Germany and Japan.
He coached the Brazil Olympic team and also managed the senior team from ’06 to ’10 including at the last World Cup in South Africa. However, he was dismissed by the Brazilian Football Confederation following the team’s elimination in the quarterfinals.
