Qatar has defeated Lebanon tonight 1-0 in a harrowing football game in a final qualifying match for the 2014 World Cup.
Much to the delight of Qatar’s national team – and the chagrin of those in Lebanon – Sebastian Soria put in the winning goal during the 64th minute of play.
Here’s what FIFA had to say:
And that’s it, the game has come to an end and Lebanon will look back on those two events in the second half that saw the game turn against them: Ramez DAYOUB’s (LIB) back-pass that put in Andres QUINTANA (QAT) for the only goal and Youssef MOHAMAD’s (LIB) miss right at the death. The schedule only gets harder for both teams, with Lebanon hosting Uzbekistan in five days time, while on the same evening Qatar will be visited by Korea Republic.
Some 40,000 fans were present for the game, after the Lebanese government backpedaled on a decision to close the game due to security concerns expressed by Qatar.
Congrats, guys!
