A fire broken out amongst furniture and building material shops this morning at Souq Al-Haraj in the Najma neighborhood of Doha.
Witnesses first reported seeing smoke billowing over the area just after 8am.
The Ministry of Interior said there were no casualties caused by the blaze, which affected at least three shops at the souq (also known as the second hand market). Civil Defense firefighters were able to bring the fire under control by 9:45am or so.
Photos posted by the Peninsula showed the shops were completely gutted.
Anthony Romblon, who was driving nearby, told us he could smell burnt plastic from C-Ring road.
It isn’t yet clear what set off the fire.
