A fire has broken out an an under-construction site between the Melia Doha and the Kempinski Doha hotels in Qatar’s business district.
According to witnesses, emergency responders are on the scene and roads in and around the area have been closed off. The smell of smoke has spread throughout the area.
About an hour after the fire broke out, the Ministry of Interior tweeted that it had been brought under control:

Speaking to Doha News, a staffer at the Meliá said the fire appeared to have started in the basement of a tower that is being built in Dafna.
It remains unclear if there are any injuries.
Construction workers could be observed to have been evacuated from the site, which appears to be Union Residential Tower.
The 33-floor residential building was expected to be completed this month, according to developer UrbanCon’s website.
As the weather heats up, fires become more commonplace in Qatar.
Just this week, a warehouse fire was reported in the Industrial Area.
And earlier this month, the Caravan complex in Doha was shut after a blaze badly damaged some restaurants there.
A few days after that, a fire broke out at the under-construction Mall of Qatar, which is also being developed by UCC.
At the time, UCC said that an investigation was being conducted and details would be provided when they emerge.
