There are plenty of events taking place in and around Doha this weekend, including theatrical performances, concerts and a showdown between two of Qatar’s top football teams.
Here are our picks:
Emir Cup 2016 Final: Al Sadd vs. Lekhwiya
One of Qatar’s most popular football tournaments draws to a close this weekend as Al Sadd squares off against Lekhwiya in the final match of the Emir Cup.
The game will be held at Al Sadd Sports Club on Friday (May 20) at 7pm.
Tickets for the match can either be bought at various malls across Doha or onsite, starting 3pm. Admission costs QR10 for regular tickets and QR50 for VIP passes.
Aspire In-Side-Out fun run
The Aspire Zone is hosting a 5 kilometer fun run on Friday (May 20) that’s aimed at helping residents stay in shape, as well as introducing individuals to its indoor and outdoor facilities.
The run will start at 7pm at the Aspire Zone warm up track. Participants can either register in advance on the Life in Aspire website or on the day itself.
Registration is QR50 for those aged 18 and above, and QR25 for those 17 and below. Participants must be at least 10 years old.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
The Doha Players’ production of Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang – a story based on Ian Fleming’s novel that inspired a 1968 British musical film of the same name – opens tonight (May 18) at the Qatar National Theater.
The tale follows the adventures of an eccentric inventor and his children who rescue a racing car from a scrap yard and discover it has magical properties.
Performances are at 7pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with additional shows at 2:30pm on Friday and Saturday.
Tickets are QR100 and can be purchased at The One at Villaggio and Landmark Mall.

Adopt a cat with CAT
The Cat Assistance Team is celebrating its third birthday with a get-together at the Royal Vet Clinic on Al Waab Street.
This is a chance for people to meet and potentially adopt cats looking for a home.
Visitors can also learn more about volunteering opportunities with CAT and support the organization’s work by buying their merchandise such as books and homemade baked goods.

Movie night at Hyatt Plaza
Hyatt Plaza mall will be screening half-hour movies these weekend in a projection dome that creates an immerse experience of travelling through oceans and space.
This weekend, the dome will be playing From Earth to the Universe from 4pm to 10pm on Thursday (May 19), Kaluoka’hina: The Enchanted Reef from 3pm to 10pm on Friday (May 20), and We Choose Space from 11am to 10pm on Saturday (May 21).
Entrance is free of charge.

Friday Night Live
Students from schools across Qatar will be entertaining visitors to MIA Park this weekend with their musical talents.
Friday Night Live runs from 6:30pm to 8:30pm on Friday (May 20). Entrance to the event is free.
Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra
Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol this Saturday (May 21). The event starts at 7:30pm and will be held at the Qatar National Convention Center.

Zumba Pangkalusugan
The United Filipino Organizations in Qatar is hosting a pre-Philippine Independence Day Celebration featuring zumba sessions.
All are welcome to the event, which will be held at the Awsaj Recreation Center in Education City.
The event will start at 9am and runs until noon on Friday, May 20.
Refreshments will be provided at the event, and attendees are requested to wear yellow as the theme of the event.

Azerbaijan Mugam Night: This concert, co-hosted by the Embassy of Azerbaijan, is free and takes place in Building 16 at Katara Cultural Village on Thursday, May 19 starting at 8pm. Mugham is Azerbaijan’s traditional music and was recognized by UNESCO on a list of the “intangible cultural heritage of humanity.”
