The programme seeks to improve education quality by evaluating educators’ adherence to national professional standards.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has unveiled a new “Professional Licensing” programme for the 2025–2026 academic year, aimed at improving the quality of education by evaluating educators’ adherence to Qatar’s National Professional Standards.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry, “the programme aims to evaluate the professional practices of teachers, coordinators, and school leaders, based on the practical implementation of the National Professional Standards.” Specialised committees will conduct evaluations using precise tools to measure the alignment of educators’ performance with national benchmarks.
A dedicated electronic platform has been established to manage the process, from registration through advanced stages of evaluation. The Ministry confirmed that “the professional licensing policy will be implemented with complete transparency, providing communication and support channels for applicants and evaluators to share any feedback or suggestions during the process.”
Building on earlier pilot phases, the updated system incorporates feedback from licence holders and evaluators to improve accuracy and effectiveness. The update policy dictates that licences will be granted only to those who meet the established criteria, including completion of training programmes, annual evaluations, and required years of experience.
Regarded as a cornerstone of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its education system, the programme fosters a professional culture rooted in performance and aligned with international standards. During the 2024–2025 academic year, the Ministry awarded 1,404 professional licences to teachers, coordinators, and school leaders, underscoring the country’s commitment to educational excellence.
