Qatar Domains Registry (QDR) has officially made Qatar-specific Internet domain names available to the public, ictQatar has announced.
“We anticipate tremendous interest in the Qatar domain names because…Qatar-domain names allow you to choose a name that is specific to you or your business, while showing that you are uniquely Qatar,” said Saleh Al-Kuwari, Chief Technical Manager at ictQatar, which manages the Qatar Domains Registry.
Before making .qa names available to the public, QDR held a “sunrise” period that allowed trademark holders and government entities to register for the Qatar-specific domain names.
Qatar domain names in Arabic are still in the sunrise period and will be available to the public in late October, ictQatar said.
Whether a specific .qa domain name is available and a list of accredited registrars who are offering them can be found here.
The process to obtain a domain name seems pretty simple. It took me about five minutes to register dohanews.qa and it cost $39 (QR142).
Are you going to register a name? We’d love to hear about your experience!
