Doha News reader Mohammed Al-Jufairi took part in the first user trial of the new airport yesterday, and shared his thoughts on web construction forum Skyscrapercity afterwards.
He says he was very impressed by what he found, despite some areas of the airport still appearing to be unfinished:
“I expected the size of the terminal to be smaller, but it was HUGE, much larger than Heathrow’s Terminal 5” he writes. “It is easy to navigate. Personally, they SHOULD work VERY hard to open by April 1. There are no Duty Free shops close to opening. They didn’t even start interior works. There are also several patches in the ceiling of the terminals where they need to install cladding on, as well as the passport control, minor works there. The Main Terminal is empty and should be filled with perhaps shopping stands, or café’s instead of having it empty. Otherwise, the airport I think is an AMAZING masterpiece and joins the ranks of the other major aviation hubs. Can’t wait for it to open. ”
Qatar Airways has announced that trials are now open to all members of the public residing in Qatar.
You can register to take part here. Further trials will be held on the 4th, 6th, 11th and 13th of March.Â
