As part of an ongoing program of works to overhaul the road network in the Al Aziziya area, a section of Al Aziziya St. will be partially closed starting tomorrow, March 11, Ashghal has said.
Both lanes heading north on the street will be closed for a 300m-stretch between Salwa Road and Ibn Aamir St. for three months, according to a map from the public works authority.
Traffic heading away from the Salwa Road will instead be diverted to the other carriageway, which will be temporarily reduced to one lane in each direction.
Access will still remain open to Leslaimi St., but parking on either side of Al Aziziya St. will be limited during the works.
Cut congestion
Ashghal is widening the roads in a bid to combat congestion in the busy residential and commercial area.
This phase of works is part of a wider, two-year program to improve the road and drainage network in east Al Aziziya, which was announced by Ashghal in late 2014Â and is due to be complete by the end of this year.
The QR217 million project includes constructing storm water drainage, sewage networks and treated sewage effluent networks as well as the construction of road entrance and exits, parking lots, art and landscape features, the authority has previously said.
