Two sets of road diversions will get underway this weekend in central Doha and just north of the city, Ashghal has advised.
The first will take place on a stretch of Onaiza Street (also called Al Khaleej Street) which connects Civil Defense intersection with Qasr Al Marmar roundabout, near the Rumailah Hospital.
The closure is to allow the final layer of resurfacing to the road, the public works authority said in a statement.
The southbound lanes of the route, which runs past the Ministry of Public Health headquarters, will close from 1am on Friday (Oct. 28) until 5am on Saturday (Oct. 29).
Traffic will be diverted via Mohammed bin Thani Street on to Al Bidda Street and then to Rumaila Street.
The busy Civil Defense junction was reconfigured over the summer to create a signal-controlled intersection, which opened to traffic last month.
As part of the works, the surrounding roads have been resurfaced.
Al Shamal Road
In a separate set of works, a three-month long diversion will begin on Friday (Oct. 28) on the Al Shamal Road, between the interchanges at Al Kheesa and Al Kharaitiyat.
A 4km stretch of southbound lanes heading into Doha will close and traffic will be diverted to the northbound lanes.
Three lanes will remain open in each direction, although these will be narrower than usual, Ashghal said.
This work is to enable the construction of a new flyover.
