Rumors on Twitter and BBM have been circulating that Villaggio will reopen soon, but the management of some shops there say no official launch date has been set.
Still, some store owners have been allowed limited access to the mall, which could be an encouraging sign that Villaggio will open by Eid, one employee told Doha News.
Meanwhile, the Advisory Council discussed the fire investigation results of a fact-finding committee during yesterday’s regular session, QNA reports.
It then ordered the formation of another committee that will consist of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, the Ministry of Business and Trade and Kahramaa to implement the recommendations set forth in the report.
Since a fire at Villaggio mall in May killed 19 people, including 13 children, Qatar’s government bodies have been tightening fire safety rules in public spaces, including nurseries and malls.
City Center mall reopened earlier this month after a three-week-long closure to meet emergency code, but Fun City and its main food court remain closed.
An official there told Doha News that Fun City may open next month, but the food court will take longer because it undergoing major renovations unrelated to fire safety.
