Thousands of people turned up for the 2016 Emir’s Sword International Show Jumping Championship over the weekend at the Qatar Equestrian Federation.

Security during the three-day event was particularly tight yesterday, as the Emir made an appearance to watch the finals and congratulate the winners.

The competition concluded with Luciana Diniz riding ‘FIT FOR FUN 13’ from Portugal and winning QR253,077.

In addition to jumping, the Emir’s Sword included horse racing in a separate section of the venue.

This proved particularly popular among some expats, who were allowed to fill out complementary draw forms and win prizes if they guessed the winning horses.

Gazwan raced to victory in that tournament, with Blue Eye getting the silver.
