Construction on the Corniche to convert seven roundabouts into signaled intersections is expected to get well underway this week, with the Ministry of Interior warning residents to plan for an extra lane closure in both directions for the next four months.
The lane closures were instituted early this morning and run more or less from Museum Roundabout to QPost Roundabout. They will be in effect through November, the MOI said.
By then, Ashghal said it hopes to have completed the conversion of the following roundabouts on the Corniche and parallel roads into signals:
- Museum of Islamic Arts (MIA) roundabout
- Al Diwan roundabout
- National Theatre roundabout
- National Library roundabout
- Wadi Al Sail roundabout
- Onaiza roundabout
- Lejbailat roundabout
More Construction
Meanwhile, Ashghal has also announced that it will close traffic from Mesaimeer Roundabout to Abu Hamour Roundabout starting Sunday, July 21, until 2015.
Those using the road to get to and from the Church will instead by diverted onto an alternate road that connects Industrial Area road to the Wholesale Market Street.
For the next year and a half, work in the area will include the construction of a flyover that connects Mesaimeer area to Al Maamoura area at Mesaimeer road and the construction of rain and potable water networks, Ashghal said.
Will all this road work be affecting you?
