British MPs renew calls for an investigation into Qatar’s 2022 World Cup bid
Despite the retraction of allegations made against Qatar’s 2022 World Cup bid by an anonymous whistle-blower, British legislators are insisting that FIFA, the world football body, look into the bid.
The British culture, media and sport (CMS) committee adds that allegations against the bid made by ex-England 2018 chairman Lord Triesman remain, even if the whisteblower claims were dropped.
Said the statement from the committee:
We stand by our recommendation that FIFA commission a full, independent investigation of the bidding processes for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, and for the outcome to be made public.
One member of the committee, Damian Collins, went on to call for a full investigation of Mohamed Bin Hammam, who has been banned for life from world football over corruption charges.
