BBC: Superfast broadband may help make Qatar new tech hub
Come September, Qatar and the rest of the GCC, as well as Iraq and Iran, are expected to get hooked up to superfast broadband internet.
With speeds of 10 Gigabits per second – hundreds of times faster than existing internet speeds – Qatar will be propelled closer to the knowledge economy it is working toward, reports the BBC’s Stephanie Hancock.
In addition to helping to establish Qatar as a hub for business and communications, the country will use the technology to help the disabled access content on the internet.
One entrepreneur said, “It’s like jumping from a horse and getting straight into a Ferrari.”
