More than 1,300 mosques are designated for Fridays prayers during the holy month of Ramadan in Qatar.
Qatar’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced the preparation of at least 2,385 mosques to welcome worshipers during the month of Ramadan.
At a press conference on Monday, Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, the ministry’s undersecretary, announced the launch of this year’s 950 Ramadan events and activities across Qatar under the slogan “Obedience and Forgiveness“.
More than half of these mosques are designated for Friday prayers, while more than 200 mosques have been designated and prepared to observe I’tikaf, the religious practice ofstaying in a mosque for a certain number of days.
Additionally, the ministry announced the opening of 10 new mosques during Ramadan.
Jassim Abdullah Al Ali, Director of the Department of Call and Religious Guidance, highlighted that Ramadan activities will encompass all aspects of life and faith, including mosque lectures, seminars, children’s competitions, adult contests, and hospital visits to support patients.
The ministry will also organize Ramadan iftar tents across the country and distribute food baskets to families in need. As part of its initiative to support imams and muezzins, gift baskets will be distributed to them as well.
Mal-Allah Abdul Rahman Al Jaber, Director of the Zakat Affairs Department, shared that they expect to collect QAR 170 million ($46.5m) in zakat during Ramadan.
