Here’s something that might be able to drive the dusty-Doha-blues away this weekend – the uplifting Australian film The Sapphires, which is screening at the DFI’s Katara cinema for a week, beginning today.
Directed by Wayne Blair and starring Chris O’Dowd, this musical comedy-drama tells the true story of a group of Aboriginal women who leave Australia to entertain the US troops during the Vietnam war.
DFI describes the film as “a joyous tale of sisterhood, beating the odds, and good old-fashioned soul music.”
