Plans to convert Civil Defense Roundabout into a signalized junction have entered their final phase, with construction expected to finish by the end of September, Ashghal said.
Previously, the public works authority said construction would be completed by the middle of next month.
As part of the construction, one lane in both directions on Al Istiqlal St. and Mohammed bin Thani St. are closed. Both streets are being expanded from three to four lanes.
Revamped area
Ashghal has also added an extra turning lane for those heading to Hamad Medical City via Civil Defense junction and for motorists coming from Sports Roundabout and turning left to go toward TV Roundabout.
Civil Defense R/A was named after Civil Defense headquarters, which used to sit at the northeast corner of the junction.
However, that building has since been converted into an artists-in-residence program under Qatar Museums called the Doha Fire Station.
Once the construction clears up, motorists might find it easier to access the station’s new Cafe #999 and food truck.
